Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) is an anti-viral medication in the nucleotide analog inhibitor class. For most people, sofosbuvir can help with recovery of the liver after Hepatitis C infection. It can also help the immune system to improve after Hepatitis C infection.

The most common use of Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) is as part of a treatment plan after a patient has contracted Hepatitis C. It is not used alone – it is typically used in combination with pegylated interferon and ribavirin. It can be used to treat Hepatitus C genotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4.

How it works 

Sovihep 400mg tablet is an antiviral drug that belongs to a class of medicines called nucleotide polymerase inhibitors. It inhibits an enzyme RNA polymerase which is essential for viral replication and thus decreases the amount of Hepatitis C virus in the body thereby resulting in less liver damage and improved liver function.

Dosage and Administration

Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) is usually taken 12 weeks (up to a period of 24 weeks depeding on the genotype) along with the other combination medicines to treat Hepatitus C. All medications will need to be taken daily, at the same time each day.

The most common dosage is 400mg, however your doctor will advise you an exact dose to take. Your dosage may need to vary slightly over the course of your treatment depending upon how well you are responding and if you are experiencing any difficulties.

Side effects

The two most common side effects of Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) are nausea and insomnia. These common side effects can be reduced by planning when to take sofosbuvir. To reduce the risk of insomnia and nausea, it can be taken early in the day and taken with food or on a full stomach.

Sofosbuvir can decrease your red blood cell count. You may need routine testing to check the levels stay within mormal limits.

Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) can have negative effects on the liver. If you have ever experienced liver problems, you may need to discuss an alternative to sofosbuvir with your doctor. Regular liver function tests are important when taking a medicine like sufosbuvir.


Sovihep (Sofosbuvir) should not be taken alone. It is to be taken in combination with other medicines (pegylated interferon and ribavirin).

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Sofobuvir and other Hepatitus C medicines can result in birth defects or death of the fetus.

Make sure you take precautions to prevent dehydration if you experience this. Diarrhea can occur when taking sofosbuvir, If you continue to have diarrhea, tell your doctor.
